The Right Priorities for Public Education

"Kids are more to me than just a data point on paper. They are our future and as your Trustee I will fight to ensure we put them first with every decision we make."
-Vanessa Pacheco
-Support our Teachers and School Staff
Vanessa believes we must value and respect the hard work that our teachers and school staff put in daily. During her first term, Vanessa demonstrated her commitment by voting in favor of raises for teachers and support staff who keep our schools operating clean, safely, and smoothly.
Looking ahead, Vanessa will continue to ensure Richardson ISD is a sought-after place to work. She will strive to ensure our talented educators feel respected and empower them with the best training and resources available to teach and meet the needs of every student in their classroom.
-Bring Every Student up to Grade Level
As a former professional in the education field, Vanessa witnessed the cracks that students can fall into. As a Trustee, she has brought a unique perspective and thoughtfully implemented her experiences to fill learning gaps before they begin to occur. Individualized student learning and early childhood education are critical components in keeping a student on a successful path, which is why Vanessa passionately advocates for allowing more RISD students to enroll in Pre-K and keeping classroom sizes as small as possible.
-Teaching Kids Today to be Ready for Tomorrow
Vanessa believes we must continue focusing on preparing every student for adulthood and enable them to enter college or start a career.
She supports the District's priority to increase the number of students graduating with a college, career, or military-ready indicator, which has skyrocketed from 57% of graduates in 2022 to 86% in the Class of 2024.
She will build on partnerships, such as with Dallas College, to encourage students to pursue higher education opportunities through advanced classes, dual credit, and help through the college application process. Vanessa will also advocate for additional career fields and technical training certificates to be available for students, which will prepare them to join the workforce upon graduation.
-Protecting Public Education Funding
Vanessa firmly opposes a statewide educational voucher program, which would siphon tax dollars away from our community's public schools. As our trustee, she has worked to safeguard students from the negative consequences of budget shortfalls and strongly advocated to state leaders to fully fund the needs of our district. In collaboration with parents, Vanessa is proactively identifying ways to improve student attendance rates, which directly affects funding levels from the state.
-Involving ALL of the Community in Decision Making
Challenging decisions continue to be ahead for our public schools. Still, Vanessa will remain committed to including our entire community in decision-making through District committees, surveys, PTA involvement, community events, and more.
